Record a GIF with your camera
Your browser will ask for permission to use the camera. We never see or store the live feed — recording happens on your device.
Your browser can’t record here
This browser doesn’t support in-page camera recording. No problem — record a short clip with your camera app instead, then turn it into a GIF with our video converter.
The live preview is mirrored like a mirror — your GIF will show the real, unmirrored view.
Up to 15s — press the red button to record
Nothing is uploaded until you press “Use this take”. Recording happens entirely in your browser.
Your take — happy with it?
This playback is the real, unmirrored view — exactly what the GIF will show. Still nothing has been uploaded.

How to record a GIF with your webcam
Enable your camera. Press Enable camera and allow access when the browser asks. The live preview is mirrored so it feels natural, like looking in a mirror — and nothing is sent anywhere yet.
Record your take. Hit the red button and act it out — a wave, a reaction, a dance move. You get up to 15 seconds; a ring around the button counts them down. Press again to stop early.
Review and trim. Watch the take on loop. Re-record as many times as you like, or press Use this take and drag the handles to pick the best 10 seconds.
Create and download. Choose a size, hit Create GIF, and we convert your clip with an optimized colour palette into a GIF you can download or share anywhere — free.
Frequently asked questions
Is anything uploaded before I choose my take?
No. The camera feed and the recording stay entirely inside your browser — we never see them. Only when you press Use this take is that one clip uploaded so our server can convert it to a GIF. Re-recorded takes you discard never leave your device, and the uploaded clip is deleted from our server automatically within a couple of hours.
How long can I record?
Up to 15 seconds per take. The finished GIF can be up to 10 seconds — the trim handles let you pick the best moment from your recording, and a short loop almost always looks better than a long one anyway.
Does it work on phones?
Yes — modern Android browsers and iOS Safari (iOS 14.3 and newer) can record right on the page, usually with the front camera by default; your phone’s camera prompt may let you switch to the back camera. Safari records as MP4 while Chrome and Firefox record as WebM — either way the GIF comes out the same. If your browser can’t record in-page, film a short clip with the camera app and use our Video to GIF converter instead.
Will the GIF have sound?
No — the GIF format has no audio track at all, so we don’t even ask for microphone access. Only your camera is used, and only the picture is converted. That silent loop is exactly what makes GIFs so easy to drop into chats and forums.
Why does the preview look flipped?
The live preview is mirrored on purpose, because that is what people expect from a camera preview — it feels like a mirror. The recording itself, the playback and the finished GIF all show the real, unmirrored view, which is how everyone else sees you.
Is this webcam GIF maker free?
Yes — completely free, with no account and no daily limit for normal use. Each GIF carries a small Gickr badge in the corner. Gickr has been making GIFs since 2007.
