How to turn a Live Photo into a GIF
Save the Live Photo as a video. On your iPhone: open the Live Photo in Photos, tap the share icon, scroll down and tap Save as Video. A ~3-second .mov appears next to it in your library. (On older iOS: share → Save as Video may live under "Options".)
Upload that video here. Drop it above — upload starts right away.
Trim if you like. Live Photos are only ~3 seconds, so most loop perfectly as they are; the handles let you shave the ends.
Create and download. We convert it with a two-pass colour palette, optimize the file, and hand you a GIF that loops anywhere — free.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need to save it as a video first?
A Live Photo is really two files: a HEIC still picture plus a short hidden video. When a browser uploads a "Live Photo" it usually sends only the still — which has nothing to animate. Save as Video in the Photos share menu extracts the motion part as a normal .mov, and that converts perfectly.
I uploaded a .heic file and got an error — why?
The .heic is the still half of the Live Photo — a single frame, so there is no motion to loop. Save the Live Photo as a video first (step 1 above) and upload the .mov instead.
Will the GIF loop like a Live Photo does?
Yes — GIFs loop forever by default, which is exactly the charm. For the boomerang-style back-and-forth, pick the middle second of the clip so the loop point is less visible.
Is this Live Photo to GIF converter free?
Yes — completely free, with no account and no daily limit for normal use. Each GIF carries a small Gickr badge in the corner. Gickr has been making GIFs since 2007.
What happens to my video?
It is used to build your GIF and nothing else. Uploads are removed from our server automatically within a couple of hours; the finished GIF stays available at its own link.
